HUPAC and DB Cargo Polska – working together on the development of intermodal rail transport

HUPAC, a leading intermodal rail operator in Europe and DB Cargo Polska, a company of DB Cargo Group, the biggest rail operator in Europe, have been developing a network of intermodal connections with success for years. The cooperation has a calculable input measured by three million tons of goods transferred from roads to rail.

(20 July 2020) DB Cargo Polska in cooperation with mother company DB Cargo AG, sister companies DB Cargo Netherlands, DB Cargo Czechia and Belarusian railways, as well as Raaberbahn company operates trains commissioned by HUPAC on the routes: Antwerp – Pruszków, Brest – Pruszków – Vienna, Ruhland – Kąty Wrocławskie – Sławków. Since 2012 on the above mentioned routes 3m tons of goods have been transported and 2m tonne-kilometres of transport work has been performed, which means 180 thousand less trucks on the roads and 200 tons less of CO2 emission into the atmosphere.

I am glad that such a recognized intermodal operator in Europe as HUPAC trusted us with operating intermodal transports. Intermodal rail transport is the future. Each year the achieved results show us its huge potential and efficiency in competing with road transports. What is also significant is its ecological dimension, so important for us and our clients, in which its carbon footprint is several times smaller than in other means of transport. – says Paweł Pucek, Board Member for Sales in DB Cargo Polska – I can assure you, that we will do everything possible, so that our services are still operated on a lever satisfactory for our client – he adds.

Within the operated transports, containers, tank-containers and trailers are being transported. The service, which is an element of the client’s transport network, is operated on a fixed schedule and is a part of European rail network of DB Cargo. The shipment in this system is highly predictable in terms of dates and can reach every place in Europe. The transports are being operated with owned and the client’s fleet. The most modern Siemens Vectron multisystem locomotives are used for the transports. It allows to significantly shorten the transport time by eliminating the need to change locomotives at the borders.
